Peaches
28" x 40" - Oil on canvas - 2003
This piece is of the legendary Eight Immortals of Buddhism. I used the peach tree structure as Han Hsiang Tzu, the musician sitting under the peach tree, became immortal when he climbed the tree and fell out of it and cracked his head. They represent all levels of society, were born naturally, and achieved immortality through their own actions.
The eight remind me of the seven virtue cards and "The Fool" of the Major Arcana of the Tarot.
